KEEP AN EYE ON
A--Scouting Monmouth: The Hawks are one of just three teams to defeat the Bobcats during the NEC slate. Monmouth forced 23 turnovers to win the game in New Jersey but last week things looked very differently. Monmouth was blown out of the game early in Hamden and suffered an 82-63 loss. Travis Taylor is one of the league's top players. The enigmatic forward has a pro body and can score but seemed frustrated throughout last week's game before settling in late in the contest to finish with 20 points. Monmouth also has some shooters in Will Campbell and Whitney Coleman, and Ed Waite was named to the NEC all-rookie team. They do have talent but just may be overmatched and have lost three straight games. The Hawks won a tiebreaker over St. Francis (N.Y.) to earn the eighth seed.
A--Scouting Quinnipiac: Everything went just the way the Bobcats needed it to go last week. Quinnipiac won on Saturday and Robert Morris lost its season finale. That combination gave the Bobcats the NEC title and No. 1 seed in the tournament. Quinnipiac is 12-0 at home on the season and will play at Hamden throughout their stay in the NEC Tournament. If the Bobcats win the tourney they'll gain their first NCAA Division I tournament berth. If not, they're headed for the NIT. Quinnipiac is ranked 157th in the nation in the RPI and powered by NEC Player of the Year in Justin Rutty and led by Coach of the Year Tom Moore.
